Early this week, Carolina García achieved her degree in telecommunications engineering, after performing a wonderful presentation about her masther’s thesis work on Placedonia.

Placedonia is a places-oriented social network where users can save the places they like. They can also review comments on places, both from strangers and from their own contacts. Places are obtained using reverse geocode location from several services, using geokit. A recommendation engine on the top of recommendable suggests places to you.

Placedonia has been built on the top of Social Stream, describing Place as a new activity object. It also has a nice mobile version built using LungoJS.

Placedonia is deployed at http://places.dit.upm.es/, the mobile version at http://m-places.dit.upm.es/ and the code is available at Carolina’s account in Github.
